Transforming Pain

Ongoing

20 lead wrapped prints mounted on tiles with glass and plinth. (2019)

This project explores how photography can be used as a therapeutic tool and evaluated whether taking images can change the way an event is remembered over time. The images featured in this piece document places that have become symbolic to the photographer over the years. The process of taking these images, turning them into heavy, precious objects, allows her to gain control over her emotional responses and turn something metaphysical into something tangible and visible. They are the physical embodiment of the mental process of understanding and transforming pain.
